Week 1 (July 3rd)

Know Before You Go: (PLAN AHEAD AND PREPARE)

Planning ahead and preparing is the most important thing you should do before venturing into the wilderness. We'll discuss things you should think about and how to plan ahead and prepare for different places you can visit.

Week 2 (July 8th & 10th)

Choose the Right Path: (TRAVEL AND CAMP ON DURABLE SURFACES)

We can protect nature by choosing durable surfaces for travel and by camping and playing at least 200 feet from lakes and streams. Good campsites are found, not made. Let's find a place to play where we can both enjoy and respect nature at the same time!

Week 3 (July 15th & 17th)

Trash Your Trash: (DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY)

Pack it in, pack it out is the rule of thumb. We'll discuss reducing litter and other wastes, and discuss what to do when there is no toilet!??

Week 4 (July 22nd & 24th)

Leave What You Find: (LEAVE WHAT YOU FIND)

Observe, but do not touch, cultural or historic structures and artifacts. Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them. Avoid introducing or transporting nonnative species. Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches.

Ed-Ventures are brought to you by: Yukon Energy, Yukon Environment, and the Y2C2 Green Team

.

Week 5 (July 29th & 31st)

Be Careful with Fire: (MINIMIZE CAMPFIRE IMPACTS)

Campfires can cause lasting impacts to the backcountry. What is the best way to build a safe campfire? What other things can start fires in the wild? What can we do to help?

Week 6 (August 5th & 7th)

Small animal, Big animal: (RESPECT WILDLIFE)

Observe wildlife from a distance. Never feed animals. Feeding wildlife damages their health, alters natural behaviors, and exposes them to predators and other dangers. Control pets at all times, or leave them at home. Avoid wildlife during sensitive times.

Week 7 (August 12th & 14th)

Be Kind to Other Visitors (BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS)

Respect other visitors and protect the quality of their experience. Be courteous. Yield to other users on the trail. Let nature's sounds prevail. Avoid loud voices and noises. Keep campsites small. Focus activity in areas where vegetation is absent.

Also inquire about our other weekly hikes that can be great for kids and groups too!
