Porter Creek D Administrative Report and Presentation to Council is now Available

City of Whitehorse Administration submitted a report and made a presentation to Council on December 5, 2011 regarding public input on Porter Creek D.  This report included values brought forward by the public at the November 3rd Open House and during the subsequent comment period.  To download the presentation and Administrative report to Council click the following links:

Thank you to everyone who came to the November 3rd Open House! The event was held at the High Country Inn and was well attended by approximately 300 people! The Open House was an opportunity for the City to provide information on potential development in the Middle McIntyre Creek area. The Friends of McIntyre Creek and YCS provided their own Open House just down the corridor.

Let's work together to protect this beautiful and ecologically diverse area.

Downtown Whitehorse

The City of Whitehorse invited public comments on the Downtown South Charrette Design (a plan to increase the population density in Whitehorse's downtown south side). YCS responded with this written submission.

The City of Whitehorse has been revising its Official Community Plan. The Yukon Conservation Society and Friends of McIntyre Creek have been focussing on a variety of green/environmental issues related to this plan.

YCS is focussing on protecting the McIntyre Creek Watershed, Whitehorse’s last large east-west wildlife corridor.

The McIntyre Creek Watershed is at threat from the City of Whitehorse’s proposed Porter Creek D project aimed at developing a residential subdivision in the Middle McIntyre Creek area. There is also a road proposed to bisect McIntyre Creek in the across sensitive wetland habitat.

YCS and the Friends of McIntyre Creek organized a land use planning workshop with experts from varying biological and ecological backgrounds for the purpose of identifying important values in the area that should not be altered by developments.

YCS submitted this letter to the City on June 25th, 2010 to raise the following issues;

YCS also submitted a draft map to outline the Additions to Parks and Greenspace Needed for Connectivity.

There has been quite a bit of media coverage on environmental aspects of the OCP. Check out:
